How We Create Stamped Concrete

Creating quality stamped concrete requires skill, timing, and the right tools. The window for stamping is limited, so everything has to go smoothly. We have perfected our process over hundreds of projects, and we know how to deliver consistent, professional results.

Preparation and Base Work

Just like any concrete project, we start with proper site preparation. The base must be stable and well-compacted. We excavate to the correct depth, grade for drainage, and install a gravel base layer. This foundation work is critical because stamped concrete cannot fix problems that start underneath. Once the base is ready, we set forms and add reinforcement.

Pouring, Coloring, and Stamping

We pour the concrete and work it into place, making sure it is level and properly consolidated. If you want integral color, it is already mixed into the concrete. For surface coloring, we apply color hardener while the concrete is still fresh. This adds both color and extra surface durability.

The stamping happens when the concrete reaches the right consistency, usually a few hours after pouring. We use professional stamp mats that are pressed into the surface to create the pattern and texture. This is where experience really matters. The concrete has to be firm enough to hold the pattern but soft enough to accept the stamp. We work quickly and methodically to cover the entire area before the concrete gets too hard.

After stamping, we let the concrete cure properly. Once it has hardened, we clean the surface and apply a sealer that protects the concrete and enhances the colors.
